There are 4 basic types of skin:
OILY – DRY – COMBINATION – NORMAL
A skin type is determined by genes, although it can change depending on our life stage, hormones & environmental factors.
Today we are focusing on OILY SKIN:
Oily skin is a skin type with an excess of sebum production. Very often, the skin appears shiny/greasy with open pores, blackheads & sometimes breakouts & a lack of radiance. The complexion appears dull and grey looking.
The pores are filled with sebum which can create cysts, whiteheads and acne.
The next step is to determine your skin condition . With an oily skin you may experience sensitivity, dehydration, breakout & inflammation.
To understand why is your skin encounter these problems, here is a list of what can trigger it:
- Stress level
- Diet
- Products used on the skin
- Cleansing habit
- Medication
- Lifestyle
Our advice on looking after your skin:
To use a minimal amount of products. A simple, yet effective skincare routine can ease off a lot of problems. Start with no more than 2 products at a time to feel and see the effects on the skin. You can develop you skincare in stages, adding exfoliators, masks & serums if necessary. A big NO NO is to extract your own skin!! You can create more problems by spreading bacteria & scaring the skin. Also, using inappropriate products can fuel sebum production, inflammation & dehydration.
- Cleanse: Find out the best cleanser adapted to your skin type & condition. Make sure it doesn’t compromise your skin barrier. A good cleanser should not make your skin feel tight after cleansing.
- Moisturise: As above, the moisturiser must be able to treat the excess oil without being too drying for the skin.
